This unique event brings together Manchester Camerata and poet Michael Symmons Roberts, who has been commissioned to write some new poetry responding to the evening’s musical programme which includes Mozart arias and his Symphony No 40 and Benjamin Britten’s Les Illuminations. After 40 years of performing around the globe, Manchester Camerata is acknowledged as one of the UK’s leading chamber orchestras, with a reputation for first-class performances bursting with vitality. Michael Symmons Roberts has won the Whitbread Poetry Award, and been shortlisted for the Griffin International Poetry Prize, the Forward Prize, and twice for the TS Eliot Prize. His continuing collaboration with composer James MacMillan has led to two BBC Proms choral commissions, song cycles, music theatre works and operas for the Royal Opera House, Scottish Opera, Boston Lyric Opera and Welsh National Opera.
