This year’s Midland Hotel Writer in Residence is the incomparable British short story writer and novelist Tessa Hadley. Tessa’s stories chart the faint points of transition in which the ordinary becomes extraordinary, the unremarked moments when lives hang quietly in the balance. Join us to hear the world premiere of her newly commissioned story, followed by a conversation about her writing with Observer writer and MLF patron Rachel Cooke.

Tessa is the author of six acclaimed novels including Accidents in the Home (shortlisted for the Guardian First Book Award), Clever Girl and The Past (winner of the Hawthornden Prize), as well as the highly-praised short story collections Bad Dreams, Sunstroke and Married Love. Zadie Smith said of her work. ‘Few writers give me such consistent pleasure.’ This event is sponsored by Squire Patton Boggs.
