The link between pubs and literature is a long-established, much celebrated one. Pubs have traditionally been environments conducive to the culture of writing and ideas, and there’s also an undeniable (sometimes treacherous) link between writing and inspiration for many authors. As James Joyce wrote, ‘the sacred pint alone can unbind the tongue…’ Join us for this amble through some of the city’s most literary watering holes, during which, guide Suzanne Hindle will regale us with stories and snippets of spoken word from writers past and present, including a punk poet, a communist thinker, a doomed opium dreamer, and a modern Mancunian bard. It’ll be a page-turning, thirst-quenching tour.

Meet inside the Corn Exchange atrium (ends near Manchester Town Hall)
