Join us for an evening of witty, compassionate and thought-provoking poetry. South African poet Finuala Dowling – well regarded as an inventive sketcher of the domestic sublime – performs work from her new Bloodaxe collection, Pretend You Don’t Know Me. It is a compilation of the best of her four previous prize-winning collections, alongside new work. Finuala’s poems are funny and poignant, exploring themes of parenthood, love, loss, and her mother’s dementia. She is joined by Maura Dooley, whose Poetry Book Society recommended books include Kissing a Bone and The Silvering. Maura’s poetry is remarkable for embracing both lyricism and political consciousness, for its fusion of head and heart.

Presented in partnership with the Centre for New Writing.
