In their superb debut novels, Oyinkan Braithwaite and Candice Carty-Williams fight the patriarchy with dark humour, and occasionally a knife. In My Sister, the Serial Killer, Oyinkan asks if blood is thicker than water as Korede helps her sister Ayoola clean up when she murders boyfriend after boyfriend in ‘self-defense’. While friendship group The Corgis support Queenie following a break-up and a foray into dating, which sees her dealing with a range of abusive men and a series of micro-aggressions.

Oyinkan is a young Nigerian author whose debut was shortlisted for The Women’s Prize for Fiction 2019. Candice is a London-based author, a Penguin Books Write Now mentor and creator of the Guardian and 4th Estate BAME Short Story Prize. Oyinkan and Candice will read and discuss their work with host Anita Sethi.
