When does a riot become a revolution? This timely collection from Comma Press gives us a street-level perspective on the grassroots social movements that agitated for change in Britain – from the Peasants’ Revolt of 1381 to the Poll Tax Riots of 1990 and the anti-Iraq War demo of 2003. Written in close consultation with historians, sociologists and eyewitnesses, these new stories follow fictional characters caught up in real-life struggles – and provide a welcome, human counterpoint to the blare of fake news and post-truth politics.

Join us for this special event hosted by actor Maxine Peake and featuring readings from contributors; Kit de Waal, author of bestselling debut novel My Name is Leon; Michelle Green, author of the short story collection Jebel Marra; and Courttia Newland, author of seven books of fiction, most recently The Gospel According to Cane. Presented in partnership with Comma Press.
