Manchester Literature Festival is working with the Writing Squad to recruit emerging young writers from the North West region for their acclaimed hot-housing programme. The Writing Squad offers thirty writers the chance to work with each other and with professional tutors for two years. This is followed up with ongoing support to help writers make their way in the literature industry. It also acts as a sounding board and support network for a growing community of young writers and producers in the North.

The programme is open to all young writers aged 16–21 with a passion for any genre of creative writing, including fiction, poetry, lyrics, scripts and performance. The closing date for applications is 5pm on Friday 17th August 2012.
