Who were the pioneering women of the 50s and what did they do to pave the way for other feminists? Come and hear critically acclaimed Observer writer and author Rachel Cooke discuss her forthcoming book with BBC Radio Manchester presenter Sam Walker. Written with Rachel’s trademark wit and warmth, Her Brilliant Career: Ten Extraordinary Women of the Fifties focuses on pioneering women like defence lawyer Rose Heilbron QC, architect Alison Smithson, rally car driver Sheila van Damm, journalist Nancy Spain, archaeologist Jacquetta Hughes and film producer Betty Box. There will be delicious tea and scones served during the event and a book signing afterwards. This event is supported by Squire Sanders (squiresanders.com).
