Born in Harlem in 1965, Moby started out playing tracks in New York City’s bars and clubs and gradually became an acclaimed singer-songwriter, musician and DJ. In the summer of 1999, he released the album Play and its international success catapulted him to superstardom overnight. Suddenly he was living in a sky castle on Central Park West, dining with David Bowie, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson, performing live with his heroes New Order, hanging out with David Lynch, taking ecstasy for breakfast (most days), drinking litres of vodka (every day) and sleeping with supermodels (rarely).

Written with elegant candour, humour and self-deprecation, Moby’s forthcoming memoir Then It Fell Apart, chronicles his journey into the black hole of fame; a place where sex, drugs and rock’n’roll seemed to fasten the whole thing together – until it fell apart. Interspersing recollections of his childhood and teenage years in Connecticut with wild backstage stories, Then It Fell Apart charts a lost decade in the life of one of America’s great electronic music innovations.

Join us to see Moby discuss his life, memoir and music with author, music journalist and Festival No.6 curator Luke Bainbridge. Presented by Manchester Literature Festival and Faber Social in partnership with the Centre for New Writing and Creative Manchester.

This event will include an audience Q&A and Moby performing an acoustic song or two (please note: this event is NOT a concert) followed by a book signing.

Doors open at 7.30pm. Event runs 8-9.15pm.
