Two rising stars of the UK literary scene, both Daisy Johnson and Sophie Mackintosh excel in creating atmospheric tales centred around women and girls. Sophie’s dystopian Blue Ticket is set in a world where girls are given a lottery ticket to determine whether or not they can become a mother and explores what happens if someone chooses to rebel. Daisy’s gothic thriller Sisters follows July and her sister September as they escape with their mother to a cottage in North Yorkshire following an incident at school. Both books consider bodies, autonomy, place and female relationships. Daisy and Sophie were both nominated for the Booker Prize in 2018 with their debut novels Everything Under and The Water Cure. They will be in conversation with award-winning writer Jeanette Winterson.

Presented in partnership with the Centre for New Writing and Creative Manchester.
