Join us for a day of fictional fun as popular children’s authors, illustrators and performers bring stories to life. Start the day with an interactive storytelling of Clangers: The Brilliant Surprise and make your own planet or comet. Bring along your own pad and pencils and join us for a Draw Along with one of the UK’s best loved illustrators, Nick Sharratt, whose characters have appeared in books by Jacqueline Wilson, Julia Donaldson and Jeremy Strong as well as his own. Enjoy a marvellous mash-up of Sir Charlie Stinky Socks stories in one bumper show as we celebrate ten years of our favourite character with Kristina Stephenson. Popular CBeebies presenter Cerrie Burnell introduces her latest story about a little girl and her magic umbrella, Harper and the Circus of Dreams. Drop into our Market Place for free arts and crafts activities and a bear hunt, and come along to our free Story Time Teddy Bear’s Picnic – stories supplied but please bring your own sandwiches! Suitable for children aged 3–8 and their families.

10.30am – Clangers
Something spectacular is happening in the sky above the Clangers’ planet, but what is it? Granny knows, Iron Chicken knows, Mother and Major know. Tiny Clanger is desperate to find out too, but can he solve the mystery? Come along and find out in this live storytelling of Clangers: The Brilliant Surprise. You’ll also get a chance to design your own planet or comet and maybe even play with an official Clangers whistle in this fantastic interactive event presented by Alastair Watson. Suitable for children aged 4+.

12pm – Nick Sharratt – Draw Along
THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED.
Join us for a Draw Along with one of the UK’s best loved and most prolific illustrators, Nick Sharratt, as we learn how to draw characters. Nick has illustrated hundreds of books, including Jacqueline Wilson’s, Julia Donaldson’s and Jeremy Strong’s, and written lots of his own too, including Vikings in the Supermarket, Shark in the Park and Don’t Put Your Finger in the Jelly, Nelly!. Expect fun, games and plenty of chances to join in. Bring your own paper, pencils and something to lean on. Suitable for children aged 4+.

1pm – Teddy Bears’ Picnic
THIS EVENT IS NOW FULLY BOOKED.
Bring your teddy bear and your favourite sandwiches along to a free indoor picnic at which you’ll sing lots of songs, play some games and, most importantly, hear some brilliant stories at this relaxed family picnic. Places are limited so advance booking is recommended. Suitable for all the family. Tickets for this event free, but booking is essential.

2pm – Kristina Stephenson
After last year’s roaring success, Kristina Stephenson returns to Manchester with the latest in the series of Sir Charlie Stinky Socks books: The Mummy’s Gold. This year, she brings a show that’s a marvellous mash-up of all the Sir Charlie stories to date, as we gear up to celebrate ten years of the series next year. Come and find out what Sir Charlie’s been up to over the past decade with this fun, musical show. Suitable for children aged 4+.

3.30pm – Cerrie Burnell: Harper
CBeebies superstar Cerrie Burnell talks to us about the newest book in her fiction series for young readers about a little girl called Harper and her magic, scarlet umbrella. Hear about Harper’s adventure to the Circus of Dreams, where we meet a mermaid acrobat, a circus baker and an acrobatics troop, and we realise something incredible about Harper’s past. Suitable for children aged 6+.
