Acclaimed author Kamila Shamsie has been commissioned by MLF to respond to Manchester Art Gallery’s landmark exhibition The Sensory War 1914-2014, exploring how artists have communicated the impact of war on the body, mind, environment and human senses across the century. Kamila Shamsie grew up in Karachi and now lives in London. One of Granta’s Best of Young British authors, her novels include Burnt Shadows, Broken Verses, Salt and Saffron, Kartography and In the City by the Sea. Set in India, France, England and Turkey, her latest novel, A God In Every Stone, is a compelling tale of friendship, injustice, love, betrayal, history and fallen empires. As Colum McCann stated ‘into the ranks of international voices steps Kamila Shamsie, who seems as if she has heard, and listened to, the music of what surrounds us.’
