Three exciting young poets read from their debut collections. What unites the work of all three is their exploration of the self, what it means to be multi-heritage in today’s world, and their unique and insightful observations. In Antiemetic for Homesickness, Filipino poet Romalyn Ante explores migration, care and family, incorporating Tagalog into her work. Romalyn was the joint winner of the Manchester Poetry Prize 2017. Will Harris’ Rendang revels in character, language, cultural references and how identity is shaped by the world around us. Will was shortlisted for the 2018 Forward Prize for Best Single Poem for ‘SAY’. In Magnolia, 木蘭, Nina Mingya Powles captures colour, food, art, language and culture in sublime verse. Nina is a poet of mixed Malaysian-Chinese heritage and was born in Aotearoa, New Zealand. She was one of three winners of the inaugural Women Poets’ Prize. This event is hosted by Becky Swain, Director of Manchester Poetry Library.

Presented in partnership with Manchester Poetry Library and the Centre for New Writing.
