The Book of Dhaka, Comma Press' latest instalment in the ‘City in Short Fiction’ series creates a literary map of the city, bringing together 10 short stories by some of Bangladesh’s finest authors. Dhaka is the world’s tenth largest city with a population of more than 18 million people. It is home to a complex political and social history and an incredibly rich and varied cultural inheritance.

We are honoured to present author Syed Manzoorul Islam, a Professor of English at the University of Dhaka, who has published eight volumes of short stories and four novels in Bengali, as well as a volume of self-translated stories in English: The Merman's Prayer and Other Stories. With him will be translator Pushpita Alam, the managing editor of English language publishing house Bengal Lights, and the Dhaka Translation Center. They will be discussing their contribution to The Book of Dhaka with Comma’s Ra Page.
