In the first of a series of events showcasing South Asian writers, presented in association with Teamwork Productions and the Creative Services Support Group, we are delighted to welcome two of the hottest new voices in literary fiction. Tahmima Anam’s The Good Muslim, set in Bangladesh at a time when Islamic fundamentalism is on the rise, is an epic story about faith, family and the long shadow of war. Tahmima Anam’s first novel, A Golden Age, was the winner of the Commonwealth Writers' Prize for Best First Book. Dipika Rai’s debut novel Someone Else’s Garden follows the story of Mamta - born low-caste in rural India, she flees her violent husband in search of a new life in the city. Dipika Rai has worked as a journalist for Vogue India and Marie Claire. This event will be chaired by The Guardian’s literary editor, Claire Armitstead.
Before MLF provides the food for thought, chef Manju Malhi will be cooking up some South Asian-inspired cuisine for you to sample, 12 noon in Albert Square. More details on www.foodanddrinkfestival.com
