Why Donate to MLF?
Manchester Literature Festival (MLF) provides unique and imaginative opportunities for diverse audiences from Greater Manchester and beyond to experience high-quality live literature via an annual festival format and associated project activities. Since our first event in 2006, MLF has firmly established itself as a popular and distinctive event in the UK’s literary calendar, attracting hundreds of acclaimed novelists and poets (such as Martin Amis, Wang Anyi, Simon Armitage, Margaret Atwood, Kate Atkinson, Clare Balding, Amiri Baraka, Pat Barker, William Boyd, Michael Chabon, Eoin Colfer, Russell T Davies, Roddy Doyle, Carol Ann Duffy, Anne Enright, Jeffrey Eugenides, Richard Ford, Michael Frayn, Seamus Heaney, Pawel Huelle, Alan Hollinghurst, AM Homes, Anthony Horowitz, Howard Jacobson, Linton Kwesi Johnson, David Lodge, Jimmy McGovern, Andrew Motion, Sharon Olds, Anita Shreve, Lionel Shiver, Posy Simmonds, Ali Smith, Zadie Smith, Ahadaf Soueif, Colm Toíbín, Claire Tomalin, Rose Tremain, Juan Gabriel Vásquez, Fay Weldon, Jeanette Winterson and Xinran) and praise amongst industry peers and the media for its imaginatively curated programme.
“Although a comparative newcomer to the scene, the Manchester Literature Festival is already in contention for Champion League status.” Anthony Gardener, Intelligent Life
“This festival makes use of the urban environment to marry words with place and mark itself out from the myriad literary events that have sprung up in recent years.” Guardian Guide
MLF also showcases the hottest new talent from the region, provides opportunities for writers to experiment with new media in the production and presentation of their work, and works in partnership with schools, universities and community groups to programme an exciting range of educational and participatory activities for literature lovers of all ages.
MLF is very grateful for the public subsidy it receives from Arts Council England and Manchester City Council but continues to operate on modest means. We are determined to continue the development of the Festival programme, bringing the very best authors to Manchester and commissioning new and innovative work, but need your support. To make the Festival accessible to all, we endeavour to keep our ticket pricing as low as possible, and many events are free to attend. We appreciate that not everyone has cash to spare in this difficult economic climate, but if you can afford to donate on a regular or one-off basis, even the cost of an extra ticket or two, it will help the Festival to continue and thrive.
