MLF, Renaissance One, Commonword and Speakeasy are thrilled to present internationally renowned Jamaican dub poet, director and playwright Jean ‘Binta’ Breeze. Her words are personal and political and her electric stage presence and rhythmic wordplay has mesmerised audiences around the world. Whether speaking about Third World poverty, reggae music, inner-city living, the Caribbean or family life, she weaves together themes that challenge and celebrate human experience in all its many forms. Her latest collection Third World Girl: Selected Poems was published by Bloodaxe earlier this year. She will be joined by members of Speakeasy People and the talented local young people’s collective Young Identity. Jean will also be giving a free afternoon workshop for young people (aged under 25) 3 – 5pm at Contact. Please call the Box Office on 0161 274 0600 to book a place.
