Coronavirus Updates

Event cancellations due to Covid-19:

Following the Government and Public Health England’s advice around COVID-19, we have taken the decision to suspend our forthcoming events for April and May 2020. We are deeply disappointed but need to prioritise the health and wellbeing of our Festival staff, authors, hosts, event partners and audiences.

Where possible we will reschedule events for Autumn 2020 or Spring 2021. In the meantime, ticket holders for An Evening with Hilary Mantel on Sunday 19 April at RNCM will be contacted by the box office they booked through (either Quaytickets or RNCM) and offered a refund.

Please note, it may take up to 28 days for refunds to be processed by Quaytickets and longer for refunds to be processed by the RNCM due to both buildings being closed for the foreseeable future. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this difficult and unprecedented time.

As a registered charity, we rely on ticket sales for a substantial part of our income and to help fund our work with emerging writers. The uncertainty ahead is a significant worry for us as an organisation and the writers, poets, publishers, venues and partners we work with. If you have enjoyed our events and appreciate the work we do, please consider donating the price of your ticket to Manchester Literature Festival to help us deliver more excellent events this October and year-round activities for children and families.

Office Closure from Friday 20 March

In keeping with the Government and Public Health England’s new guidelines, the Festival Team will be working remotely for the foreseeable future and continuing with plans for our 15th Festival this October.

At present, the Festival dates are Friday 2 – Sunday 18 October 2020 and we are currently working hard on a diverse and exciting programme of fiction, poetry, culture, imaginative writing and events for young readers! We aim to announce a few headline events over the next few months and launch the full Festival programme in August 2020.

If you need to contact the Festival during the time the office is closed, please email: and your email will be passed on to the relevant person.

We understand how important literature is and feel lucky to be part of such a wonderful and creative community of writers, readers, performers and storytellers. We thank you for your continued support of Manchester Literature Festival and look forward to sharing more brilliant events with you soon.
